Dear Friends,

This is Admiral Ramdas conveying to all my erstwhile colleagues and friends my warmest greetings and good wishes. I was in Delhi recently and took the opportunity to visit Jantar Mantar on 31 July 2015, where many Ex- servicemen were observing a Relay Hunger Fast for impressing the Government to honour their long held promise of giving our valiant soldiers, sailors and airmen their well earned and well deserved One Rank One Pension (OROP). I visited them on the 49th day of the fast.

2.     On enquiring from Major General Satbir Singh who was the senior officer present, I was quite surprised and shocked to learn that no Former Service Chief or Army Commanders and equivalents from the other Services had ever visited them at Jantar Mantar. Needless to say I had no answer, except to voice my disappointment. Surely we must support our own Junior Officers, JCO’s, NCO’s and other ranks in this demand. For some years now the Chiefs and the Army Commanders and their equivalents  have enjoyed this OROP. We must at least show our solidarity and support for this cause. I am sure each one of you feel that way, but then what is holding us back?

3. It is indeed a pity that besides a Supreme court directive, all party support in Parliament, we are still being sidelined. If jurists, politicians, law makers and the rest of the ex-servicemen are all for it then who is it that is opposing it. Anyone can make an intelligent guess!

4. I would therefore appreciate if all or some of you can pay a visit to

Jantar Mantar and show to the powers that be, that we lend total support and solidarity to this worthwhile cause.

Warm regards

Sincerely yours

L. Ramdas
